Don't Become A Real Estate Agent If...

I feel like every single day I am getting a message from someone, asking, 'should I get into real estate and then they'll follow it by something like, if I'm 17 and I'm about to turn 18, or if I have a job and three kids, or if I don't have any money or if I don't want to go to college and I need something to do... everybody wants to know, should they get in real estate?

I need to publicly answer this question because this is becoming a serious question. This serious to the point where people would reach out to me or other seasoned real estate agents to ask, should they do something that could potentially be life-changing?

Let me just start out by saying that question is the wrong question. You should not ask anyone, "should you do this?" Because for one, I don't know you, I don't know who you are. I don't know what you're capable of. I don't know if you are truly a hard worker. I don't know if you'll be able to deal with some of the crap that we a real estate agents have to deal with.

I can't tell you if you should become a real estate agent or not, it just doesn't make sense. Secondly, anyone who feels like they can tell you that is just blowing smoke because they don't know you either or they may not even know the business. So that's the wrong question.

Now, if I was to sit here and base my decision on getting in real estate business or not based on what somebody else told me, I probably wouldn't be here today. I didn't have a lot of people telling me "yeah, you should do it." Then the people who were telling me, "Oh, you're going to do great, you should become an agent and join this company." They didn't even know me. So I quickly realized it just didn't add up. It didn't make sense.

What I'm going to tell you are some things that you can base your decision on whether you should join it or not, but it's going to come down to you as the actual person.

Sometimes when I feel like people ask me, should they join real estate? They're truly asking me, am I going to make enough money to survive? My response to that is going to be no because your mind is not even in the right place going into the decision. It's kind of like a situation where I'm not going to steer you wrong.

I don't know you, I don't know how much money you need. I don't even know if you're good at saving, because I can tell that it's purely just a financial decision. Now, let someone come and say, "Hey, is real estate difficult?" Yes, it is. Here's why..., or "hey, can I make money in real estate?" Yes, you can. If you do, this..."Is real estate going through something that's going to be fun?" Well, it just depends on what you determine is fun.

So I can have answers for things like that, but no one can tell you whether you should do this or not, because what you're looking for may not be anything that they can give you nor even tell you how to get.

If you want to decide, should you join the real estate business? Should you become a real estate agent? Should you start a career in real estate? The first thing that you want to do is frame your mind correctly at the beginning.

Can you make money? Yes. 100%. You can make money doing a lot of things though. Real estate is not what you have to do to make money. If you're good at marketing, go out there and sell Facebook ads to people. If you're good at graphic design, go sell some logos to somebody, you know, real estate doesn't have to be that one.

This is only recommended for people that have the true desire and true passion for it and that brings me to this point. Do you truly have the desire to be a real estate agent? And where does that desire come from? Is it just because you've seen a cool house on somebody's IG story? Is it because you watched an episode of million dollar listing and you think it's the most awesome thing ever.

I mean, what is it that has you desiring this, or do you truly want to make a difference? Do you want to build something for yourself? Do you want to put in the long hours, is it something that you can be passionate about? I'm not saying that you have to want to build a house from the ground up, but are you even passionate about anything that the career has or does, or is it just about what you think you can make?

You know, I see a lot of people, a lot of people come in this business and they fail because they have the wrong impression of what it's going to take.

For those of you who are wondering, is this for you? I'm going to automatically just tell, you no, and I know that's very bold to say, but I'm going to tell you no, until you come and ask the right question again. No one can tell you if this is for you or not only, you can make that decision. If there are specifics that you want to know about the business, those are the questions that you need to ask to base your decision on if becoming a real estate agent is for you or not.

If you are ready to begin your journey as a real estate agent, you can begin with your real estate classes. I recommend Real Estate Express for classes. They are online and you can get your classes knocked out really quickly.
